Climate change, resource scarcity, and biodiversity present companies with new challenges that require strong ESG qualifications to address. Supervisory boards are increasingly being held accountable in this regard. The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) mandates ESG qualifications for supervisory boards as well as their disclosure. ESG rating agencies, analysts, and investors also expect supervisory boards to demonstrate robust ESG competence profiles. Hence, Supervisory Boards are in the Spotlight and we took on the challenge to evaluate the skillset of all supervisory board representatives across all D/A/CH corporate issuers, as an investor would do.
From September 2024 to January 2025, the Master’s program in Digital Business Communications and Embera Partners examined the rising requirements for ESG competencies among supervisory boards and their disclosure. The study analyzes how well publicly listed companies in the DACH region are meeting these expectations and whether stakeholders are adequately informed about the ESG qualifications of supervisory bodies.
